Reducing Waste
Reducing your waste is very easy because.....important because....
-
Packaging
Try to avoid buying things which you consider to be overpackaged.
If you buy something online and it has too much packaging then let the company.
Buy fruit and vegetables loose
Buy things in bulk - it saves on packaging in the long run.
Look for products that are ‘concentrated’ so you use less and buy less often and also products that offer refills.
-
Composting
If you have the space get a composting bin and use it for your food waste, newspapers and garden waste. Your plants will thank you for it!
-
Buy once items
Try not to buy ‘one use only’ items, such as disposal cameras, barbecues or razors. It’s much cheaper to buy them only once, and it saves a lot of waste.
-
Plastic bags
Buy a sturdy shopping bag (or two) and take them with you everywhere you go for the weekly shop and spontaneous purchases. It will save you being given plastic bags which will end up in the landfill
-
Food Shopping
Only buy the food you need to avoid food waste. Plan a week ahead menu before you go food shopping
Check sell by dates to avoid buying something you won’t get time to eat.
Find recipes that will use up leftovers, or take them for lunch
