Join the ecolution
What we are starting here is an Ecolution ( or an Eco Revolution ). The government have said that they want more communities to take their destiny back into their own hands – which is exactly what we are going to do.
The Localisation Bill will devolve a lot of powers from central office and local authorities back to Parish Councils and local communities, giving us the opportunity to reclaim some of our individual responsibility and autonomy back from the corridors of power.
It has often been said that a local community knows what is best for them and many of us believe that, with the right kind of infra-structure and well run parishes, we do have the chance to bring an element of “appropriateness” back to the way that our affairs are managed. There are also some challenges out there in the wider community ( UK and further afield ) that are impinging on our rights and we need to regain some of the power in our lives and take prompt avoiding action with some of the issues that are on our doorstep.
Some of the action required is of a sustainability nature and some is simply to do with our continued existence here – we need water, food, fuel, power and a communications infra-structure that can cope when times are hard. The climate engine is certainly hotting up no matter what the doubters say and we are in for a spot of bad weather on a global level. We need to batten down the hatches and make sure that our communities on the Island will be OK. We can then turn our attention to the mainland and, with the wisdom gained, help them on their way too.
We believe that the best way to do this is as a team – united we stand - and Ecoislanders are a resourceful bunch. By focusing on our eco-nomy, bringing the new technologies forward here first, growing and buying more of our own food and produce we can slowly reduce our dependence on outside agencies while creating an infrastructure here that will stand the test of time.
